Terms of Reference
SA IMET will:
- Provide leadership in pre-vocational education and training in South Australia.
- Provide expert advice to the Minister for Health and the Department of Health on matters relating to prevocational education and training, accreditation of medical training and issues surrounding the education and employment of international medical graduates.
- In conjunction with key stakeholders and including Medical Education Officers and Directors of Clinical Training identify, evaluate, monitor and promote medical education and training programs for prevocational medical officers and their trainers. Promote and actively encourage innovation in prevocational training.
- Undertake the accreditation and monitoring of medical prevocational training positions using national and jurisdictional standards.
- Notify the Medical Board of South Australia of accredited postgraduate year 1 training positions.
- Contribute with other stakeholders to the decision making by the Department of Health on the distribution and suitability of prevocational Medical Officer positions in South Australia.
- Establish and maintain linkages to promote communication with education providers at undergraduate level and vocational level, to foster greater sharing of expertise, information and a continuum of learning.
- Establish, maintain and promote partnerships with relevant national and jurisdictional organisations, including other Postgraduate Councils, through the Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Education Councils.
- Contribute to a national core competency set for prevocational training and undertake research on prevocational medical officer training in relation to education and training pathways, assessment and the needs of international graduates.
- Receive feedback from prevocational medical officers about relevant safety and quality matters and advocate to health regions about prevocational training, health and welfare issues.
