Flinders Medical Centre
Flinders Medical Centre is a 420 bed teaching hospital situated 13kms south of Adelaide, 3 km from the sea and 15kms from the Southern Vales vineyards. It shares the same campus as the Flinders University of South Australia. Flinders Medical Centre (FMC), south of Adelaide, was the first hospital in Australia to combine a medical school and hospital in the one institution and has earned an international reputation as one of the country's finest teaching hospitals.
The combined public teaching hospital and University School of Medicine pioneered a model of integrated patient care, teaching and research, which has been internationally recognised for its success.
It is one of two state trauma receiving centres, has a new 24 bed Critical Care Medical Unit and a level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. There is a close liaison with the Repatriation General Hospital, Daw Park and Noarlunga Health Services, Noarlunga and rotations to these hospitals may be included in some rosters as well as to a general practice in Mt Gambier. There is also close liaison with the Women's & Children's Hospital in relation to paediatric training rotations.
