Medical Education Officers

Medical Education Officers (MEO) provide an educational consultancy service to the hospitals, offering advice and assistance with the processes of teaching, assessment and evaluation. The MEOs also provide support for the personal welfare of junior doctors, and aim to enhance education and training by promoting an environment conducive to learning.

More specifically a MEO's role entails:

  • developing educational and organisational initiatives and support structures to facilitate junior doctor training
  • implementing, evaluating and maintaining educational programs within the hospital
  • developing, trialing and evaluating educational resource material and assessment tools for TMO education programs
  • contributing to the statewide and national development of General Clinical Training Programs by working collaboratively with other MEOs, DCTs, clinical supervisors and SA MET, both within South Australia and interstate.

The South Australian MEOs and program coordinators meet regularly order to share information and support one another in their work and to ensure there is a coordinated approach to trainee medical officer education and training in SA.
