Medical Education Officers (MEOs)
The SA MEOs and/or Program Coordinators meet regularly each month at SA IMET in order to share information and support one another in their work and to ensure there is a coordinated approach to JMO education and training in SA.
The MEOs are professional educationalists who supply an educational consultancy service to the hospitals, offering advice and assistance with the processes of teaching, assessment and evaluation. The MEOs also provide support for the personal welfare of junior doctors, and aim to enhance education and training by promoting an environment conducive to learning.
More specifically an MEO's role entails:
- Developing educational and organisational initiatives and support structures to facilitate junior doctor training
- Implementing, evaluating and maintaining educational programs within the hospital
- Developing, trialing and evaluating educational resource material and assessment tools for Junior Medical Officer education programs
- Contributing to the statewide and national development of General Clinical Training Programs by working collaboratively with the other South Australian MEOs, DCTs, and other medical educators both within South Australia and interstate
