Term Supervisors

The role of a term supervisor is to:

  1. Provide an orientation to the term. This will include providing an outline of education and clinical opportunities available to junior medical officers (JMOs) during that term and discussion with JMOs on their individual learning objectives for that particular term.
  2. Provide feedback on progress including a formative mid term appraisal and a summative end of term assessment. It is expected that feedback will be sought by the Term Supervisor from a number of team members on a unit and that performance feedback will be based on direct observation of the JMO during their time on a unit. The mid term assessment is usually an informal but essential part of the assessment process and can be very helpful to future progress of JMOs. The end of term assessment is a written appraisal of the term's work and forms part of the assessment on which full registration with the Medical Board is based. The assessment should be discussed with JMOs and signed jointly by the JMO and the term supervisor
  3. Act as a 'resource person' or 'mentor' to JMOs.
